Svigals + Partners Named 2019 Emerging Professional Friendly Firm
October 16th, 2019
NEW HAVEN, CONN, Oct. 16, 2019 – Demonstrating the firm’s unique commitment to tomorrow’s architects and design professionals, Svigals + Partners is thrilled to announce it has been named a 2019 Emerging Professional Friendly Firm by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) New England, the leading organization for architects in professional practice.
This award, sponsored by AIA New England’s Young Architect Regional Director and Regional Associates Director, recognizes firms in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont “that display an outstanding commitment to the development of their Emerging Professional staff.” Emerging Professionals, or EPs, are defined by the AIA as the diverse group of individuals recently licensed or moving along various points on the path to licensure. This includes students, recent graduates, candidates on the path to licensure, and architects licensed 10 years or fewer.
Based on a committee review of submitted survey responses from architecture firms throughout the AIA New England region, the AIA granted “Emerging Professional Friendly” status to those who displayed exceptional levels of commitment to the professional development of their EP staff.
Katelyn Chapin, AIA, a project architect at Svigals + Partners and New England’s Young Architect Regional Director (YARD), implemented the regional program to equip both emerging professionals and firm leadership with regional statistics to develop and enhance their firm policies and practice. Chapin states, “This program has an ability to attract and retain employees by sending a message to current employees, future employees, and other regional firms that the firm has evaluated their policies from an Emerging Professionals lens, the firm recognizes Emerging Professionals at their firm, and the firm values Emerging Professionals' development to sustain the future growth of their practice.”
Svigals + Partners offers unique opportunities to its emerging staff, such as involvement in all aspects of the design process, the ability to contribute to office policy and firmwide strategic initiatives, support with the Architecture Experience Program (AXP) and Architect Registration Examination (ARE), and underwriting of involvement in professional organizations. “We’re proud to care for and nurture our young staff members who frequently bring innovative and fresh approaches to longstanding challenges,” said managing partner Jay Brotman, AIA. “We recognize they represent the strength of our future.”
Svigals + Partners has offered congratulations to all Emerging Professional Friendly Firms around the New England region and the United States.
