Svigals + Partners is honored to have received the CREW CT 2018 Annual Real Estate Award in Best in Class: Life Sciences for its renovation of the Biohaven Pharmaceuticals headquarters.

Working with an innovative New Haven based start-up company to create their new headquarters in a historic bank that was built in 1910 was an exciting challenge. The new office needed to reflect the collaborative culture of a company with a unique, forward-thinking business model. Their vision was to create a shared office space, providing a variety of places to work individually and collectively without assigning workstations to each employee. This made integrated and responsive technology essential. More than half of the space is dedicated to collaborative meeting rooms that vary in size and capacity. 

The company chose this historic building to honor their rich history within New Haven. The renovation brought many challenges as we had to alter a former bank, with sunken drive-up window and vault, into a flexible, open office space. The vault was celebrated as an anchor within the main open office area and became a place for branding. The open office area features historic high ceilings and beautiful moldings, juxtaposed with the contemporary furniture, finishes and lighting.  All the meeting spaces are faced with glass, bringing a welcomed transparency to the space allowing the historic windows to flood the space with natural light.
