University of New Haven's Centennial Celebration

September 30th, 2020

This Saturday October 3, 2020, the University of New Haven (UNH) will celebrate its 100th year with a unique and exciting Virtual Centennial Ball. In addition to performances by Broadway Sings, featuring legendary six-time Tony Award-winner Audra MacDonald, the online event will include a diverse array of programming, networking at virtual tables, and campus tours.

Attendees will also enjoy a glimpse of what the University’s next 100 years will look like, as the campus tour portion brings them inside the recently completed Bergami Center for Science, Technology, and Innovation. Designed by architecture, art and advisory firm Svigals + Partners, nationally known for leading-edge academic facilities, the Bergami Center serves as a hub of activity for interdisciplinary collaboration among students of the sciences.

The building represents the most recent by-product of an ongoing collaborative partnership with the University — Svigals + Partners also designed the acclaimed Engineering and Science University Magnet School located on the campus.

[PROPOSED QUOTE] “We know what the students and faculty at University of New Haven are capable of, and what the alumni have gone on to achieve,” says architect and managing partner Jay Brotman, AIA. “Our goal with this design was to inspire the kind of innovation and collaboration that leads to next-level, breakthrough developments in institutional, research and corporate settings.”

At the heart of the 45,500-square-foot, four-story innovation hub, Centennial attendees will experience virtually the artful, airy central atrium where students, faculty and administrators will congregate informally for conversations and breakout ideation sessions. The Bergami Center also features state-of-the-art collaborative classrooms, engineering and science labs, video production studios, a makerspace, and an esports training and tournament venue. Thematic artwork installations throughout the building evoke the process by which ideas and hypotheses evolve from concepts to experiments, to solutions.

“We’re proud to say that the Bergami Center is one of the finest learning facilities in the country,” says Stephen Morin, Vice President for Advancement with the University of New Haven. “The design by Svigals + Partners embodies our institutional commitment to preparing the next generation of leaders and problem solvers, and we are excited to take alumni and other supporters of our school on a virtual tour of the Center as part of our Centennial celebration."
